What is a "Mother Ship"?

A mother ship refers to a large ship that serves as a base of operations for smaller vessels. In our case, the 100' and 250 ton Lost Coast Explorer will serve as our mother ship. Using a 12,000 pound crane, smaller (19' sport boat and two 24" center consoles) boats will be lowered to the water to take students to surf, fish, and explore the "Lost Coast" of Panama.

The Lost Coast Explorer definitely fits the "mother ship" bill. Prior to coming to Panama, it tackled some of the roughest seas in the world while operating without incident in Alaska's Bering Sea.
